So, here is another bad publicity stunt! Iceland is former stronger ties with China. Ok, so Iceland (along with Japan) whale hunts despite social reasons not to. Iceland recently got itself in a financial mess with Britain and the Netherlands by scamming them for their money and then not returning it. Not to mention the Cod Wars with Britain. Iceland's economy crashed and then elected a comedian as the mayor. And now, since their foreign relations has been shot to shit they make a stronger public tie with a country that other countries have negative perceptions of. Right. . . .

Perhaps Iceland has an opportunity to repair it's reputation by reaching across borders and allowing itself as a safe haven for journalists. Check out THIS ARTICLE that describes Iceland's initiative to protect journalists from legal threats in order to report the stories. I think it's pretty ingenious considering the current threats that Icelandic reporters encounter when documenting negative opinions about the Ice Save controversy.

Ok, so if you aren't aware Iceland just had elections and a new party called The Best Party has 6 of 15 seats in the council. The Best Party was voted in with campaign promises such as free towels at all pools, a drug free parliament and a new polar bear for the city zoo. Great, so not only are Icelanders getting bitched about for the Ice Save, we're also being joked about for our politics. Is THIS not the joke across the seas?

Iceland being considered a feminist country is quite awesome, in my opinion. I can't think of any country that has been regarded as one. Check out this article where it discusses how Iceland has banned all strip clubs and is tackling the sex industry. Although, I must admit I am not aware of the sex industry at all because I haven't been exposed to it. What I have been exposed to are the swimming areas. No one is shy there. All you need to do is go to the pool or hot spring if you want to see a woman naked-although it may not always be the most attractive women.
As far as a feminist country, why not? Women are the majority and have been afforded so many opportunities. Iceland is also considered progressive along with it's Scandinavian neighbors. For Iceland to be tackling the dark aspects of the sex industry only advances it to the next category. Let's just hope that this doesn't influence a backlash that is darker than the regulated sex industry in an underground.
